A book in which a large variety of things happen in a very short number of pages and at no point is it clear why the reader should care about any of it at all. If you want YA with dragons read "To Shape a Dragon's Breath" instead. Blackgoose can write humans and a gripping story in a refreshing setting. Maybe Yang can manage that- there's the bones of a good story hidden in the absolutely bare, dry, boilerplate, workmanlike prose- but it's not on display here.
